The Institute of Physics is a
scientific charity devoted to increasing the practice,
understanding and application of physics. It has a worldwide
membership of over 36,000 and is a leading communicator of
physics-related science to all audiences, from specialists through
to government and the general public. The Institute helps
to support physics research and its applications through its groups
and divisions.
Its publishing company, IOP Publishing, is a world leader in
scientific publishing and the electronic dissemination of
physics.
The IOP is dedicated to securing a flourishing future for
physics, particularly by providing
resources, advice and training for teachers and encouraging
young people to study physics beyond the age of 16. As
part of this the IOP has set up the Stimulating
Physics Network, in partnership with the Science Learning
Centres, to provide support for teachers and pupils of
physics in England.
