National Curriculum

The Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove announced on 20 January 2011  a major review of the National Curriculum in England.  A three month call for evidence for the new programmes of study for English, mathematics, science and P.E. for first teaching in September 2012.

The SCORE partnership is working to ensure that the science and science education community is appropriately engaged in the development of the science curriculum, qualifications and assessment. Policy areas include:

School and college workforce

All learners should have the opportunity to be taught by high quality teachers of the sciences with expertise in the subject area they teach, and for teachers to be supported by high quality technicians and teaching assistants. To provide evidence for this statement the SCORE partnership is investigating two areas:

Specialist teachers

Initial Teacher Training 

 

Wider learning experience

Learners and teachers should have access to a wide range of learning environments which supports the science curriculum and promotes science as a subject. SCORE's current work in this area includes:

Curriculum enrichment and enhancement
